Proposed framework for Data Protection Directive emphasizes security, enforcement

On 25 January, the European Commission released its proposed framework for the new, long-awaited revision of the Data Protection Directive. The original directive was created in 1995, and most agree it was in need of a significant update. The proposed framework for the revised directive includes the implementation of a new regulation on data protection as well as data breach notification and increased enforcement powers.

NAID-Europe has actively commented at every opportunity throughout the process and will remain vigilant in asking the European Commission to intensified enforcement of data protection laws.

With the 2012 NAID-Europe/PRISM/ARMA Conference being held in Brussels, Belgium, event planners are confident they will attract a number of the policymakers involved in the revision process to the event, both as speakers and attendees.
