2013 conference to release research, host press conference

Details on the 2013 NAID-ANZ Conference in Sydney, Australia are beginning to take shape. The conference will be a one-day event Feb. 19, 2013, at the Sheraton on the Park. Conference planners will invite a high ranking official from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner to give the opening speech. Speaker details and educational sessions are still being developed.

Despite the fact that event planning is still in its early stages, conference planners will schedule a press conference schedule the same day to release the findings of the Australian Disposal Habits Study and the Secondhand Electronic Memory Devise Study. These studies are currently underway. The Disposal Habits Study is modeled after similar NAID research conducted in Canada, Spain and the U.K., all of which raised the issue of responsible data destruction to a national level. The Australian Secondhand Electronic Memory Device Study marks NAID’s first attempt to ascertain and demonstrate the amount of personal data that remains on second hand hard drives and solid state devices.

Previous press conferences about disposal habits studies were held in Canada and Spain and can be viewed on NAIDTV. If the press conference unfolds as it has in other countries, planners are expecting major national media outlets to attend.
