In the last few months, NAID has established a small following on Google Plus. This is the latest in a number of social media efforts to help improve NAID’s and the secure destruction industry’s online presence.

“The whole idea behind social media marketing is to nurture relationships and to be found online,” said Kristina Carlberg, NAID’s Director of Communications.

One such social media site that should be included in the marketing mix, according to Carlberg, is Google Plus. Google Plus is Google’s answer to Facebook, a social networking site for individuals and companies to connect and share information with one another. All the search power and search engine optimization best practices are built into the foundation of Google Plus. Within the last couple of years, Google has incorporated social sharing as part of its search algorithm. This means Google has recognized the importance of social media and made it easier for individuals to find the content produced on those sites. As such, Google+ has the Google juice behind it, which means Google Plus pages tend to get higher rankings in the search results more often. Additionally, companies need a Google Plus account to show up on Google maps, Yelp and Siri results. For NAID, that means one more avenue to be found, one more way to build awareness about the importance of secure information destruction. For NAID members, this builds their sphere of online influence and credibility and increases their likelihood of being ranked high in search engine results locally, regionally and nationally.

According to a recent Forbes article, “Google Plus generates much more brand engagement than you think. Recently we studied more than three million user interactions with more than 2,500 brand posts on seven social networks. Google Plus posts generated nearly as much engagement per follower as their Facebook posts — and almost twice as much engagement per follower as their Twitter posts.”
