Spanish Disposal Study Underway – Findings to be Released at September Press Conference in Madrid

NAID-Europe has commissioned a statistical sampling of commercial waste receptacles in and around Madrid, Spain to determine the relative amount of personal and competitive information is currently being discarded by organizations entrusted with private information. The information gathering portion of the study is now concluding.

A similar study in Toronto, Canada last year produced some startling results which were covered across the country by broadcast and print media.  For instance, the Canadian study showed that patient information was available in 3 out of 4 doctors’ commercial garbage receptacles.

NAID-Europe will hold a Press Conference in Madrid to release the results of the study, in addition to presenting the country’s data protection authorities and EU data protection authorities with a full report on the study’s results.

Last year, Spain was one of three countries to be the subject of a NAID-Europe Consumer Attitudes Study.  The findings from that study will also be used as a frame of reference for the results of the disposal study currently underway.

The date of the September press conference will be announced in a future edition of NAIDDirect.
