NEWS INVESTIGATORS CONDUCT CITY WIDE DUMPSTER INSPECTION
 

In a report by Brandon Bartlett of Channel 14 News Investigates, posted to the website of NBC-affiliate WFIE-TV in Evansville, Indiana on Feb 15th, a slew of the TV station’s reporters drove across the city, from the east side to the west side, looking in dumpsters for discarded personal information that a criminal might use to steal an identity.

 
It will probably not surprise any NAIDDirect readers to learn that they found examples of improperly discarded sensitive information virtually at will.
 
The report further states that law enforcement officials were stunned by how easily the information was found and how much was available.
 
Where officials from the organizations whose trash was raided were available, they either claimed ignorance or human error.
