TAX FILES IN VANCOUVER DUMPSTER

According to a story that was uncovered by CTV News and reported on the broadcaster’s website on April 8th, the private information of dozens of British Columbians was found in a dumpster in downtown Vancouver.

The report claims that the documents contained names, addresses, tax information, business transactions, and social insurance numbers from several firms at a nearby office building, and the documents -- marked with phrases such as "personal and confidential" -- came from the office of a well-known accountant.

The article also reports the comments from the accountant’s clients and describes the possible penalties resulting from such violations.
