APARTMENT DWELLERS DATA PUT AT RISK BY MANAGEMENT

According to a report by local TV station KWCH on April 22nd, a Wichita apartment complex put its residents at risk by placing a large number of boxes of personal information and paperwork inside one of the apartment's dumpsters.  The TV station states that they received the call from a concerned tenant only after they got no response to complaints to the apartment management office.

When contacted, local authorities stated that no law had been broken.  NAID is relatively sure the FTC would disagree.  If there is one credit report in the documents, typical of apartment rental procedures, it is absolutely a violation of FACTA.  Kansas does not have an information destruction requirement at this time.
