MEDICAL RECORDS DUMPED AT RECYCLING CENTER GET HEADLINES
 
According to a report posted to the website of WRCB, the NBC-affiliate in Chattanooga, TN, police reported finding sensitive medical and financial records at a city recycle center. The officers made the discovery after receiving a call stating that medical records had been discarded that were sensitive in nature.
 
The posted article states that the authorities were aware that the records have information protected under HIPPA laws and, as a result, were taken into custody.
 
A local hospital originally associated with the improper disposal has denied any connection to the discarded records, which seems to be supported by the facts.
