DISCARDED LOAN RECORDS CAUSE STIR IN INDIANA
Jim Meenan, writing for the South Bend Tribune, reports that the Indiana Attorney General's office is investigating how at least 80 loan applications ended up in a dumpster behind a shopping center. The files had been turned over to the AG’s office by the paper after a passerby discovered them in the trash.
Indiana’s ID Theft law makes it a crime to discard personal information without destroying it first and requires notification of those whose records have been violated. According to the report, the AG’s office is considering both.
