MEDICAL RECORDS FOUND IN DUMPSTER

According to a broadcast report on Pittsburgh, PA-based WTAE Channel 4 Action News, which aired on August 20th, medical records from the early 1990s were discovered in and around a recycling dumpster. The report says that those documents that did not fit into the dumpster were left on the ground next to it.

When interviewed, the doctor, an OB-GYN who had moved across the state 3 years prior, told reporters that he had paid a man to incinerate the records.

Evidently the man that the doctor hired decided it would be easier and cheaper to recycle the materials.

The TV station further reports that it was told by federal agents from the Department of Health and Human Services that they have launched an investigation into the issue.
