STUDENT RECORDS PLACED IN OPEN DUMPSTER
A Salt Lake City’s NBC affiliate, KSL, reports on the station’s website that on August 30th, “a bunch” of records containing personal student information ended up in the dumpster instead of the shredder for which they were intended.
School authorities claim that the information was personal, including teacher’s comments and scholastic reports, but that there were no Social Security numbers or other information. As a result, according to the report, the school maintains that the incident does not constitute a security violation.
Each file contained the name of the student and their home address.
