DUMPSTER-DIVING BAN BECOMES KEY ISSUE IN LOCAL ELECTION
Modesto Bee – Modesto, California

September 24, 2009- Incumbent Modesto City Councilwoman Kristin Olsen’s support of a law banning dumpster-diving has become a focal point for her opponent Joe Cataline. Mr. Cataline’s contention that the dumpster-diving ban is frivolous and could prevent people from making a living collecting recyclables obscures the fact that studies show ID thieves are far more likely to use low-tech means like dumpster diving to obtain sensitive data than any type of electronic means (see “Javelin Releases 2009 ID Theft Report” in the September 17 issue of NAIDDirect).
