NAIDnews From the Editor: The Theme – Motivation

September 12, 2017

Kelly Martínez, NAID Director of Marketing & Communications

As I put together this issue of the NAIDnews, I was impressed by a key theme, motivation.

According to Psychology Today, “Motivation is literally the desire to do things. It’s the difference between waking up before dawn to pound the pavement and lazing around the house all day. It’s the crucial element in setting and attaining goals—and research shows you can influence your own levels of motivation and self-control. So figure out what you want, power through the pain period, and start being who you want to be.” I love it!

Corrine Allen knows exactly what she wants Goodwill of Orange County to be. That’s why as COO, she requires NAID Certification in her RFQ specifications for a document destruction vendor. Read my interview with Allen and know that there are other companies out there who think just like her.

Members who want to grow their business won’t just consider NAID Certification as a tool in their arsenal. Those who are serious will be motivated to put into action the steps that Rand LeMarinel outlines in our cover story on how to “Supercharge Your Digital Lead Machine”. What I love about LeMarinel’s advice is that it is consumable and actionable. Are you motivated enough to see if it works in generating leads for your company?

Speaking of marketing, if you’re not motivated to write your own content, learn how NAID allows members to leverage association-produced content for your own business marketing on page 34. And while NAID is supporting member business, you can learn in this issue about the advocacy work by NAID-Canada with Parliament recently. NAID is motivated by our mission to promote and support the information destruction industry.

And finally, there is Colin Scott’s testimony of why he chose to become a CSDS, which is dripping with his personal motivation. Hopefully, after reading it, you’ll be motivated too!

Being part of this industry, I know that each day our work is meaningful. Data destruction is serious business. That alone is powerfully motivating to me.
