NAID-Canada Presentation For Privacy Commission a Success

Bookmark and Share

On December 8, 2008 NAID-Canada Chair Joseph Bozic traveled to Ottawa to conduct a presentation on secure electronic data destruction for the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. The presentation was well attended and an extensive question period followed.

"This presentation was definitely a constructive one for NAID-Canada. We raised awareness of the challenges pertaining to electronic data destruction and highlighted the fact that NAID-Canada can provide information and expertise on all matters of information destruction, representing an evolution of its early days focused primarily on paper. We will definitely pursue similar opportunities in the future," stated Bozic.

Several positive developments resulted from the ensuing dialogue, including action items for the Commissioner’s Office and NAID-Canada to work together on possible initiatives like an electronic information destruction fact sheet targeted towards small and medium-sized businesses, as well as one for the general public.

NAID-Canada will continue to encourage governments at all levels to enshrine specific information destruction requirements in privacy legislation, particularly at the federal level where the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) is undergoing parliamentary review.
