T-Mobile Germany Reorganizes after Data Theft Scandal

On November 5, 2008 Cellular News reported Philipp Humm resigned as managing director in the wake of the theft of 17 million customer’s personal data. The personal data was stolen in 2006 but it was not announced until October 2008. T-Mobile Germany released a statement that Philipp Humm will assume responsibility for the incidents. The company also noted that its next managing director will direct a new privacy department rather than being responsible for sales.

This decision by T-Mobile Germany is significant because it shows the growing importance of information protection at the CEO level.
