Bank Documents Improperly Discarded in the U.K.

On October 23, 2008 the Bolton News in Bolton, UK reported that personal files containing names, bank account numbers, mortgage account information, job salaries and bill payment history were found by in an Asda Bank carrier bag behind the Asda Bank Abbey branch. A passerby discovered the personal files in an alley trash bin behind the bank.

Head of Corporate Communications for Abbey, Anthony Frost, said the bank has set up procedures to make sure this does not happen again. Hopefully Mr. Frost realizes that contracting a secure information destruction company to destroy sensitive information is the best way to resolve this problem.
