Privacy Commissioner Blames Lack of Basic Security for Data Breaches

According to the 2007 Annual Report on the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) released on June 3rd by the office of Canadian Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart (pictured), too many data breaches are occurring because companies have ignored some of the most basic steps to protect personal information.

Examples of reported breaches include improperly discarded paper records.
