Shred Event Promoted Nationally

Bookmark and Share

The first of two planned national shred events to be held in conjunction with the BBB will take place this Saturday, May 3rd. Over 50 BBB branches across the country have joined with one or more local NAID Members to offer secure destruction services to the general public as a way to raise consumer awareness regarding the importance of proper information destruction. The jointly promoted event is being called "Secure Your ID" Day.

Equifax, one of the country’s largest credit bureaus, has also lent their name and support to the event.

In addition, over 50 NAID Members will sponsor similar events on that day in support of the initiative. All participating locations are being promoted in the Shred Day search engine posted on the home page of the NAID website.

Advanced promotion for the event included local and national press releases issued by the Council of Better Business Bureaus, the local BBB branches, NAID and NAID Members. To date, over 200 such press releases have run around the country.

And, for the first time, USA TODAY, the country’s only national newspaper, is running an ad campaign promoting the event. The first ad appeared on the front page of the April 30th LIFE Section. Another smaller ad runs in the paper today, May 1st.

Learning from both the successes and challenges of this first event, NAID and the BBB have already agreed to move forward with an improved, expanded event next September. With much of the infrastructure for the event now created, and the successful promotion of the event at the national level, event planners have high expectations for the September event.
