Florida County Records Dicarded Carelessly

Bookmark and Share

An article posted to the Online Edition of Hernando Today dated November 6th reports that, while dropping off old newspapers at the Hernando County Florida, recycling dumpster, a man discovered hundreds of files containing the personal information of county residents inside.

According to the article, when informed of the find, a county official acknowledged the problem of discarding such personal records in a public container and promised to have the files removed immediately. In addition, the county would promptly revise its records disposal policy to include keeping all county records slated for recycling inside the records facility.

NAID has sent a letter to the county advising them that secure destruction is required when discarding sensitive information.
