University of Kansas Releases Findings of Disposal Investigation

In a press release from October 5th, the University of Kansas announced the findings of its investigation into improper disposal of personal information.

According to the release, the investigation was launched after 3 local newspapers received packets of private records in the mail. The records in the packets were reportedly obtained from the dumpsters and recycling bins at the university. Evidently, the investigation found that the source of the records was the Mathematics Department.

The release does state that as a result of the incident, the university has hired an outside firm to provide destruction services, as well as launch an initiative to create more awareness for the protection of personal information.
