Fired Insurance Agent Discards Personal Files

Bookmark and Share

On September 11th, Jeff Mores, a Staff Writer for the Benton County Daily Herald in Bentonville, Arkansas, reported that a local businessman went to work on September 4th, only to discover his dumpster brimming with files he had not put there. Upon looking at the files, he was shocked to see that they contained personal information of customers of a major insurance company.

It turns out the agent, or more correctly former agent, who placed the records there, had recently been terminated by the firm. In violation of the firm’s usual practice, the company’s records were not immediately taken into their custody upon the dismissal.

While the report says that the dismissal was not under good terms, the article does not seem to go so far as to suggest there was any intent for malice in the incident.
