It has been announced that NAID Executive Director Bob Johnson will speak at a workshop on the protection of data on recycled computers. The half-day workshop, titled Data Security Management in Electronics Recycling will run from 1:00pm to 5:00pm on October 23rd in Atlanta.

The workshop is being hosted by the International Association of Electronic Recyclers (IAER), in conjunction with the e-Scrap Conference which is hosted annually by Resource Recycling on Oct 24th and 25th. Johnson's participation in the event is part of NAID's continuing effort to raise the level of importance of information protection to the e-scrap industry’s service providers.

This is the 2nd time in the last few months that Johnson has been called upon to speak at a national forum on the topic of electronic information destruction. In doing so, he is quick to remind listeners that e-scrap recycling is quickly turning into the secure information destruction business, replicating what took place in office paper recycling over the last decade.

As evidence of this point, Johnson points to a recent study by Dell that shows data security as the most important concern of organizations disposing of unwanted IT equipment.

Johnson’s session is titled, An Overview of the Data Privacy Issue. He will be joined in the workshop by 3 other speakers who will address issues of Transportation Security, Data Destruction Methods, and Warehouse Security.
