Poor Information Security Procedures Lead to Firings

According to an article by Jim Provance in th eJuly 21st edition of the Toledo Blade, the Ohio Inspector General has assigned "shared blame" for a series of decisions that led to the theft of a state computer tape containing sensitive information of more than 1.1 million individuals and businesses.

In a growing trend toward holding employees responsible for such lapses, Governor Ted Strickland responded by accepting the resignation of the computer project’s manager, terminating the contracts of two consultants, firing the 22-year-old college intern who left the tape in his car, and initiating disciplinary proceedings against two other state employees.
