Personal Documents Dumped in Winnipeg

Bookmark and Share

An article in the Winnipeg Free Press by Gabrielle Giroday on Monday, April 30th reports that hundreds of detailed personal documents turned up in a blue garbage Dumpster behind a local travel agency.

The garbage bin was full of car insurance applications, filled-out travel itineraries, payment forms listing credit card numbers and expiry dates, and other documents ripe for identity thieves.

There were also Manitoba license plates -- one with a valid sticker through August -- that neighbors in the area noticed in the dumpster after searching for the source of sensitive documents blowing down the street.

"I picked one paper up after seeing a bunch blowing around, and I thought, 'My God!' " said one man, whose workplace borders the alley where the documents were found.
