NAID Connects with Capitol Hill Staffers

Bookmark and Share

As NAIDDirect readers will remember from its last edition, a NAID delegation was heading to Capitol Hill to meet with the staff members of Congressional leaders who are pushing for immediate action on data protection.

We are happy to report that the meetings went very well. Because of NAID’s initiative in this area, and the credibility it has earned with policy makers around the world, the association can reassure members that information destruction requirements are very likely to be included in whatever may result from the current discussions.

Remaining unclear, as several bills are being drafted in various competing committees, is whether or not jurisdictional rivalries will impede progress. However, even if that happens, there is a strong suspicion the House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will use her influence to resolve the jurisdictional issue. The previous Republican Speaker of the House was not so inclined.

NAID has been asked to help policy makers by providing significant background and legislative language. Among the more interesting and challenging projects requested of NAID is a comprehensive analysis of state laws regarding required destruction and notification. NAID has set about this project already. The results of this project will be shared with all members for use in their sales efforts and to influence their state officials if they so desire.
