Article Warns of Information Left on Old Computers

Bookmark and Share

An article in Network World on January 29, 2007, warns readers that improper disposal of old computers pose just as large of a security threat as someone accessing their current system. The article states that companies often have closets full of old computers that contain sensitive information that could cost a company millions of dollars, and many computers also contain lead and other toxins that prevent landfill disposal.

While the article is a bit simplistic in the advice it provides to readers regarding do-it-yourself sanitization, it does make the point that the priority is to be sure all information is erased completely.
