In an unorthodox move, all members of the NAID Certification Rules Committee were named Members of the Year. In making the decision, the Awards Committee decided that the enormity of the task merited acknowledging everyone who participated. In prior years, one person per year had been presented with the award. To see the current list of NAID Certification Rules Committee, please go to www.naidonline.org/leadership.html.

The NAID President’s Award, which is periodically presented to individuals who have demonstrated a long history of service in the advancement of the secure destruction industry, was awarded to Vladimir Vasak with Iron Mountain Secure Shredding at the Annual NAID Awards Banquet at the 2006 NAID Conference. In presenting the award, NAID President Chris Ockenfels read a litany of positions filled by Mr. Vasak over the years, including on the Board of Directors, Chair of the Public Relations, Contracts and Education Committees, and also referenced his current responsibilities on several committees and as the Chair of the Complaint Resolution Council.

In accepting the award, Vlad recounted his pride in being involved with NAID, which according to him, was evolving and responding to growth and increased attention in such a professional manner.

In addition, NAID’s Director of Operations Jody Schmit was presented with a Special Recognition Award, honoring her for the coordination of the year-long campaign to revise the NAID Certification standards. In presenting Jody with the honor, NAID Certification Chairman Willie Geiser described Jody’s task of coordinating five subcommittees over the course of a year, dealing with issues as diverse as access control, background screening, unannounced audits and electronic media destruction. Willie said that Jody’s task took a good measure of patience, tenacity and diplomacy, all of which she supplied generously.
