The last edition of NAIDDirect™ featured 2006 NAID Conference speaker Charlie Pierce, one of the most sought-after and highly-regarded experts on CCTV monitoring and recording in the country.

In this edition, we are proud to introduce readers to another conference speaker – Dr. Simson Garfinkel, who many regard as the world’s leading authority on issues related to electronic information security, storage, retrieval and destruction.

Simson L. Garfinkel, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Research on Computation and Society at Harvard University where he teaches courses on computer security and application design.

He is a consulting scientist at Basis Technology Corp., which develops software for extracting meaningful intelligence from unstructured text, and a founder of Sandstorm Enterprises, a computer security firm that develops advanced computer forensic tools used by businesses and governments to audit their systems.

Dr. Garfinkel writes a monthly column for CSO Magazine, for which he was awarded both the 2004 and the 2005 Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award for Best Regularly Featured Department or Column. He is also a founding contributor of Wired Magazine. He is perhaps best known, however, for his book Database Nation: The Death of Privacy in the 21st Century.

He holds three Bachelor of Science degrees from MIT, a Master's of Science in Journalism from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from MIT.

Dr. Garfinkel will present Everything You Need to Know about the Destruction of Information on Computer Hard Drives at the 2006 NAID Conference in May.

Whether or not you are actively destroying or overwriting computer hard drives, you should know what to tell your clients about how to protect themselves.
