Snag in Data Security Bill - Temporarily

Bookmark and Share

The Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously, and without debate, approved a narrow data security bill two weeks ago. The broader bill from the Judiciary Committee was scrapped due to strong opposition from a number of business groups. Fortunately, there are a number of stronger bills clearing committee this week that have a far better chance of making it through, largely because they are supported by their respective committee chairs. NAID is closely watching the bill emerging from the Senate Energy and Commerce Committee, which includes a strong document destruction requirement. Action is expected on that bill later this week.
