NAID 2011 Conference Planners Announce Theme/Add Featured Speakers

As seen in the new NAIDDirect banner, the Conference Committee has selected this year’s theme – NAID 2011: Forging the New Heroes of the Data Protection Age.

As usual, the committee selected a theme that draws upon the location (next to Universal Studios), trends in the industry (thenecessity for a new approach to increased customer needs), and, finally, also captures both the goal and the promise of the event (delivering what attendees need to effectively capitalize on those evolving needs).

Featured Speakers:  The NAID 2011 Conference Committee has already made significant progress lining up an attractive list of featured speakers. 

In addition to the already announced selection of keynote speakers FDNY Chief Richard Picciotti and former Harley-Davidson branding guru Ken Schmidt, the Conference will feature:

• Peter Klein,producer of the recent Emmy-nominated exposé on the data protection and environmental consequences of inappropriately exported electronic equipment, will give a behind-the-scenes account of the investigation and his first hand impression of the issues at stake;
• Matthew Scholl,part of the NIST team responsible for the 800-88 information destruction specification, has been invited to discuss a range of topics related to current and future NIST specifications and how they will impact contract destruction services;
• Burke Kappler,an Attorney in the Privacy and Identity Protection Division of the Federal Trade Commission, will also be on hand to explain the FTC’s intentions with regard to Red Flags Rule enforcement, as well as other policy and enforcement initiatives.

Conference planners are also waiting for confirmation from the Department of Health and Human Services - Office for Civil Rights who will provide a speaker to discuss upcoming mandatory HIPAA fines, the need for policies and procedures, data breach notification, and the Department’s program for auditing business associates and covered entities.
