HHS trains attorneys general to dumpster dive

NAID President Scott Fasken unearthed a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) program being used to train state attorneys general and their staffs about finding HIPAA violations. HHS suggested that attorneys general looking to prosecute and fine health care organizations watch for local news reports of improperly discarded information and check dumpsters behind hospitals and doctors’ offices.
