NAID-Canada to Work with Ontarios IPC and OES to Create E-Scrap Data Security Standards
By invitation of Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner, NAID-Canada will participate on a working group that will also include the Ontario Electronics Stewardship oversight group to develop data security standards and procedures for the province’s e-scrap recycling initiative. Work will begin on the project soon. Earlier this year, NAID-Canada raised concern about commercials aired by the City of Toronto encouraging citizens to put the old computers by the curb for collection. NAID-Canada appealed to the Ontario IPC that commercials made no reference to any data security issues and promoted a very risky practice. The city pulled the commercials from the air immediately.
