Patients’ Records Tossed into Dump

June 16, 2011- Records containing the personal information and sensitive data of over 1,200 patients ended up in a local landfill last month. Sutter Gould Medical Foundation, owners of the records, indicated that the incident was a mistake, and they believe no harm has occurred.

"Working with our vendor, every effort was made to locate the missing information," said Sandy Bellew, Sutter Gould's health privacy information officer. "When it was determined that the box and its contents were not going to be located in a timely manner, we began steps to notify our patients."
