The most recent edition of nzSecurity, serving the professional security industry in New Zealand, featured an article on the importance of proper information destruction, including a reference to NAID.

In the article, NAID CEO Bob Johnson comments on the state of data protection regulations in New Zealand relative to what’s happening globally.

“When examining data protection compliance around the world,” said Johnson, “the trends definitely favor more stringent regulations and stronger penalties. Lawmakers in countries such as the U.S. and the U.K. have learned the hard way that organizations require clear direction and stiff consequences in order to take privacy seriously. While we have seen some recognition of this in New Zealand and Australia,” Johnson continues, “regrettably they still rely on a more conciliatory advisory position. The good news for the public is that sooner or later all jurisdictions eventually intensify their approaches largely because it is the only thing that works.”
