The NAID 2016 Conference Committee is proud to announce that Captain Richard Phillips will be a keynote speaker at the association’s annual conference and expo next April in Orlando. Phillips is attributed with heroic actions and quick thinking at the helm of cargo ship hijacked by Somali pirates in 2009. The world has since come to learn of his ordeal and heroism in the 2013 Oscar®-nominated hit movie titled “Captain Phillips” starring Tom Hanks.

Though he describes himself as a "regular guy," the world knows that Captain Phillip’s actions were anything but ordinary after the pirate attack. His harrowing and heroic efforts to survive an ordeal that riveted the world were only matched in valor by his decisive actions to save his crew and the ship they sailed. Afterward, President Obama stated, "I share the country's admiration for the bravery of Captain Phillips. His courage is a model for all Americans."

In his speech, “Steering Your Ship through Rough Waters: Lessons on Leadership from Captain Phillips, the reluctant hero not only shares his compelling story - presented in his warm, highly personal style - but also draws lessons from those dramatic events that can help attendees survive and thrive, stressing the vital importance of leadership and teamwork, combined with a belief in the power and potential of a good leader and a good team.

The NAID 2016 Annual Conference and Expo will be held April 7-9, 2016 at the Renaissance Resort at SeaWorld® in Orlando. For details or to register, visit the event website.
