The first of its kind, secure data destruction industry event, was held in Tokyo on Nov. 25.  The one-day event attracted approximately 250 participants who currently provide such services or are considering.

NAID CEO Bob Johnson was one of the event’s featured speakers, providing a session that examined the evolution of the secure destruction industry in the United States, as well as lessons learned from that experience that could prove useful as the industry only now begins to take root there.

“Many of the developments that propelled the secure destruction industry in North America over the last decade are only now developing in Japan,” says Johnson. “In many ways it’s like looking back in time to how it was in the U.S. 15 years ago.”

Johnson then joined the other featured speaker, Jean-Luc Petithuguenin President of France-based Confidentialys, for an open-mic panel discussion on a wide range of industry issues.

There are currently 22 NAID members in Japan. That number is expected to increase significantly as the industry matures there.
