Under a memorandum of understanding, the Australian Government Security Construction and Equipment Committee (SCEC) will recognize NAID AAA Certification with specific endorsements for the external destruction of Australian Government official information as fulfilling the requirements of the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Information Security Manual (ISM).

SCEC has announced plans to phase out the T4 approval scheme, which was previously used to qualify service providers for the destruction of Australian Government official information. Service providers holdingT4 approval will have one year to transition to NAID’s two new endorsements if they wish to continue to be recognized by the PSPF and ISM for the destruction of Australian Government official information.

“We are honored that SCEC would see the merit of NAID AAA Certification,” says NAID-ANZ Chair Paul Hurst. “Bringing NAID’s robust security specifications and audits to bear on this screening process make this change a win for everyone.”

As NAID AAA Certification with specific endorsements will be recognized in the PSPF and ISM, we see the overwhelming majority of government departments and many private businesses relying on it to assure they are selecting a reputable service provider.

NAID-ANZ is holding an orientation on the new AAA Certification endorsements (that reflect Australian Government requirements) during Shred School this week in Sydney, and members will be given more details in the coming weeks.
