NAID Leadership Prepares for New Jersey Testimony

February 26, 2019

i-SIGMA co-President Angie Singer Keating has accepted an invitation to testify in person before the New Jersey Assembly on March 11 in support of the association’s proposed amendments to the Assembly Bill 4640. The Government Relations Committee is taking this opportunity seriously due to the long-term impact this advocacy action could have on members not just in NJ but nationally.

“New Jersey’s proposed data protection and consumer rights bill is among the first GDPR-modeled state regulations,” said Keating. “As such, it could well serve as a model for other states and the federal government as they inevitably move toward such regulations. It is important that we help them get it right.”

The suggested amendments to the proposed bill clarify the relationship between the data controller and data processor, call for provisions to address abandoned records and media, and create mechanisms for data controllers to comply with vendor selection challenges.

“These issues are critical to NAID members,” adds Keating. “Not only for what they mean to members located in the state, but to those affected by the regulations that use New Jersey as a model.”
