McMillian Appointed Australia’s Information Commissioner Designate

Bookmark and Share

According to a government press release on 26 February, Professor John McMillan AO, has been appointed the Information Commissioner Designate in preparation of legislation soon to be enacted.  Professor McMillan took a leave from his current position as the Commonwealth Ombudsman and officially took the new office on 8 March.

NAID-Australasia has already sent congratulations to Professor McMillan and will seek an audience in due course to make him aware of its availability as a resource.

This action by the Rudd administration contradicts the perception that enthusiasm for the issue of data protection has tempered over the last year.  The appointment will add much needed momentum to those looking to advance data protection issues.
