Texas Attorney General Settles Disposal Case with Fitness Company

An article by Jeremy Roebuck posted to the site of The Monitor in Houston, TX on August 14, 2009 reports that the Texas Attorney General’s office has reached an agreement with a fitness company requiring the company to better protect its customers’ personal information and pay a fine of $28,000.

The settlement is the result of charges stemming from a filing cabinet containing customers’ personal training service contracts found in a dumpster behind one of the firm’s locations. Under today’s agreement, the defendant must implement a comprehensive records management policy and strictly comply with state document disposal laws.
