Foreign Banks Now Confronting Identity Theft Scourge - Hopefully

Bookmark and Share

There continue to be signs that identity theft is a growing issue outside of the US.  On July 2nd the Central Bank of the Philippines’ posted a consumer advisory about the importance of protecting personally identifying information.   The advisory states that “Your personal information may be stolen from you through various means, such as: from the Internet, pickpockets, mail or by way of dumpster diving. Dumpster diving refers to a person's activity of rummaging through trash looking for documents with your personal information on it.”

NAID applauds the proactive warning to the bank’s customers, and advises the Bank to give the proper attention to vendor selection—something occasionally found lacking in developing nations.
