NAID-Australasia's mission is to protect Australasian business and consumers from the misuse of sensitive information.

NAID-Australasia's purpose is to:

• Raise awareness about the importance of properly destroying discarded information, both paper based and electronic
• Inform industry about the importance of choosing a qualified company to provide that service
• Play an active role in the development and implementation of industry standards and certification
• Provide a range of member services which include advocacy, communication, education and professional development
• Provide guidance and advice for organisations seeking certification through NAID International.

NAID-Australasia believes:

• Every individual and organisation has information that requires secure destruction
• Information protection is a vital issue for individuals and organisations
• Every organisation should be legally obligated to appropriately safeguard personal information
• Organisations need to be as security conscious in the destruction of documents and records as they are in protecting them on their premises
• Documents are only as secure as the weakest link in their lifecycle
• There is a significant risk to an organisation's reputation and competitive position if they do not use secure destruction techniques
• Stored records should be destroyed on a regular schedule
• Incidental business records discarded on a daily basis should be protected from theft and fraud
• Internal personnel should not be responsible for destroying sensitive information.
